Water from dry air, explained.

Arid does not chill air to squeeze out moisture. It uses a Nobel-recognized material that grabs water molecules straight from the air, which is why it keeps producing where condensation machines stall. Here is how it works, where it sits in the market, and the questions we hear most.

The science

Built on Nobel-recognized materials science.

At the heart of every Arid unit is a metal-organic framework (MOF), a porous crystal engineered at the molecular scale with an enormous internal surface area, a single gram can hold a surface area larger than a football field. That surface is tuned to grab water molecules directly out of the air, even when there is very little of it to grab.

MOFs are the class of materials recognized with the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Arid's framework comes from published, patent-free literature, so the chemistry is proven and the technology is ours to manufacture at scale.

Adsorb

Ambient air is drawn across the MOF. Water molecules are captured and held inside the framework's pores by adsorption, not by chilling air to its dew point. That is why it keeps working in dry, hot, desert air where condensation stalls.

Release

A gentle, low-energy temperature swing, from a wall outlet or solar, releases the captured water from the framework as pure vapor, which condenses into liquid inside the sealed unit. The framework is regenerable and primed for the next cycle.

Purify

The collected water passes through multi-stage filtration and is measured near 20 TDS, close to distilled and below EPA drinking-water guidance, then pours clean from the top faucet. A fresh filter is replaced once a year for $45.

Condensation cooling

Chills incoming air below its dew point so moisture condenses. It needs humid air to work, so output collapses below roughly 30% RH, it burns energy fighting the heat in hot climates, and it runs loud, with compressors and fans you hear across the room.

Arid MOF adsorption

Captures water chemically at the molecular level, independent of dew point. It keeps producing down to about 10% RH, thrives in heat, sips energy, and runs whisper-quiet, no compressor, just a soft fan.

Yes. That is the whole point. Arid uses a metal-organic framework that adsorbs water molecules rather than chilling air to dew point, so it keeps producing down to roughly 10 to 20% relative humidity, where condensation-based units lose most of their output. Production still scales with humidity and temperature, so very dry days yield less than humid ones.

Factory testing measured output near 20 TDS (total dissolved solids), below the EPA recommended drinking-water guidance and close to distilled. Water passes a multi-stage filter before dispensing. Independent lab certification for your region is part of our pre-sale process.

The two ongoing costs are electricity and the filter core. At typical power rates, all-in water cost lands under 10 cents per liter, and a fresh filter is replaced just once a year for $45. Solar operation removes most of the electricity cost entirely.

No. The home unit is plug-and-play. Set it up, plug into a standard outlet or solar, and it produces after a five-minute warm-up. Continuous fill to a storage tank and a hot or cold tap are optional add-on configurations.

The home cabinet is roughly the size of a small office refrigerator and produces 20+ liters of drinking water per day. The commercial unit produces up to 100 liters per day, and units cluster to meet larger site demand.

Either a standard 120V wall outlet or solar, and output is the same on both. Power draw is modest, so pairing the unit with existing home or site solar removes most of the running cost. The commercial unit also supports hybrid grid-plus-solar setups.
